Traffic is right-sided and all the main roads are of very good quality. There is not really that much to drive as the island is relatively small and getting from north to south is a 90 km drive. There is only one two-lane road running from Rhodes city in direction of Lindos but two lanes go only as far as Kolymbia municipality. It's not an express road, there are traffic lights at each intersection and they are pretty annoying because they lack synchronicity. Here and then you have guys at the traffic lights that will offer you to wash your windscreen and get some cash in return. Another common problem are cars parked on the lanes or in unexpected places but these are not that common. Speed limits are generally obeyed and local drivers tend to abide road regulations. There are some speed cameras warnings but the cameras themselves seemed to be missing. In comparison with Crete I felt more comfortable on the road with barely any level of aggression. In the city of Rhodes watch out for scooters, they are everywhere. In the rush hours traffic in the city is pretty congested and expect some jams, especially in high season. Had no cotact with the police and never saw them patroling or controlling the speed.
Most of the parkings are free of charge, there are some paid ones in most popular spots like Lindos or Rhodes city. Every beach has its own parking space which was more than sufficient in April. In high season probably you need to come a bit earlier to make sure you get one.
I rented a car from Rhorent rental company, payed 300 EUR for 3 suitcase car for 10 days with full insurance excluding tyres and windowpanes. Additional driver was free of charge, child seat - 30EUR for 0-4 years old, 20EUR for 5-12 year old booster seat. No deposit was needed. Got a brand new Opel Crossland car that was really clean inside. Only caveat was a 40 EUR fee required in case of accident to cover the costs of paperwork. Rental process went smooth altogether with returning the car, no need to record the video with car state.
