Vrata Valley - access and parking
Vrata Valley is the hottest spot on the map of the Slovenian Julian Alps. Therefore the access to it is restricted by limited parking space (195 spots) and a substantial parking fee. There are barriers that control the access. A day of parking costs (2025) 24 EUR in high season (15.06 till 15.09) and 15 EUR in lower (15.03 - 15.06 and 15.09 - 15.11). In the winter the barrier is closed for good.
Alternatively, a free bus shuttle can be used to get to the starting point. Cars can be parked in Mojstrana then, which costs 10 EUR. Please check the local page to get the latest info on prices and conditions.

Parking at Vršič Pass and the Russian Road
Vršič Pass can be reached by car or by bus. To park the car during summer months you need to be there fairly early, especially during the weekends as the place is very popular. There are 93 parking spaces available. To get to the top you must use the Russian Road with 20 serpentines which makes the drive challenging - however, the road condition is good. The pass is closed during winter months - or earlier/later depending on snow conditions.
There are road barriers built from both sides of the Vršič Pass. The passage is free of charge if done in under 50 minutes or if done outside the high season (15.06 - 15.09). There is a parking fee for parking on Vršič Pass. The barrier system has two lanes - if you plan to go to Bovec or park along the Russian Road to get to the mountain huts or set off a trip from there, you should use the left lane by the barriers.
